Who I am & why I do what I do

I am an LGBTQ+ Korean adoptee who has spent a considerable amount of time and energy studying in seminary and working in practical settings to understand the role of God at work in a world full of oppression, suffering, and lament. I grew up in a family where I was free of the pressures of requisite religious belief but I still sought a spiritual understanding of the world around me. I sought connection and answers but rarely was met with adult leaders who were equipped to handle the deeper spiritual need I had as a young adoptee and LGBTQ+ person of color. I was shaped by the lack of presence of adults who could truly approach and address the questions, turmoil, and pain that I was holding as a young person. As I have grown into a pastor, preacher, teacher, and youth worker, I have been driven by the need to be truth-tellers about the human experience.

In other words, I feel driven to guide others to discover and address the truth of their experiences, doubts, questions, and pain in order to experience healing, transformation, and/or reconciliation. I believe that we gain nothing by pretending we’re alright and we have everything to gain by being vulnerable about our fears, anxieties, misunderstandings, and doubts.

Whether I am preaching, teaching, or coaching, I am always rooted in this belief in the importance of vulnerability and truth-telling.

I am also an award winning story teller, activist, and advocate.
