I preach, teach, & tell stories

I believe that preaching is a dialogue, not a monologue, that has the power to open up lines of critical thinking, self-discovery, and theological imagination. I preach semi-regularly at The Table MPLS and have provided semi-regular pulpit supply for Prospect Park United Methodist Church and Bethlehem-Eidsvold joint-parish in WI.

I have also won a Moth Twin Cities Story Slam & am a Moth Grand Slam competitor.

I am available for the following type of speaking:

  • Story-telling as entertainment

  • Preaching & pulpit supply

  • Academic speaking & teaching

  • Podcast interviews

  • Story telling workshops & training

Do you love me?

John 21:15-17 reminds us that Jesus chose a scared & disillusioned man (Peter) to lead. Even in Peter’s denial and fear, Jesus still chose him. We ask the question of if Jesus chose Simon Peter because of his fear and not despite it.

Psalm 19

This message was preached at Prospect Park United Methodist for Pulpit Supply. Prospect Park and Rev. Isiah Dennis has invited me to preach at PPUMC on 4 separate occasions. This message was preached in October 2024 and focused on Psalm 19 and God’s flourishing for all. This sermon highlights that part of the justice and liberation for oppressed peoples is to believe in the vision of joy and flourishing God created and promised for all people.

Calling a Thing What it Is

Mark 5:1-15 isn’t just a bunch of supernatural mumbo jumbo. In fact, Mark 5:1-15 has one of (I think) the most compelling examples of how God helps us heal. Jesus stares down Legion and asks for a name. It is precisely in naming and knowing what is/has stolen our peace that we can begin the long and difficult process of reclaiming our life. Jesus must first ask “what is your name” before helping the afflicted man.
